What we can learn from “the mat”

What can we learn from “the mat”?

The mat is the place to practice not only yoga challenges but a place to learn how to navigate life’s challenges.

We can learn AHIMSA. Ahmisa is the one the 5 Yamas. Yamas are the way we connect with others. Ahimsa means literal non-violence, but it also means having compassion for others, but as the Jewish sage, Hillel asked? “If I am not for myself, who will be for me? But if I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?” Bring this question on the mat and into your yoga practice by moving in your poses with kindness and compassion for your body and your mind. Practicing Ahimsa on your mat helps you understand what feels like to be kind to yourself. Then when you come to a moment off the mat when need to be kind to yourself, you can find the compassion you have practiced on the mat.

This is just one lesson that can be practiced “on the mat” for our use when life challenges us.
